About Me
It all started 20 yrs ago, when I bought myself a sewing machine. I taught myself how to use it and started to just cut away at fabric not knowing what I would end up with. That day changed my whole life. I started to make dolls of all different kinds. They were all originals and did not come from a pattern. This began my little doll business where I would sell them at shows and even in stores.
I had over 30 different dolls that I made and sold, and none of them were the same at all. They all ended up having different personalities. From there I learned how to spin on a spinning wheel. What fun that is ! So then some of my dolls ended up getting hand spun wool for hair. The dolls ranged from 4 inches tall to a whopping 4 ½ feet tall.
Then it happened, I found my long lost dolly from when I was a child. My grandfather had given her to me when I was very young. When I unwrapped her I found that her head was in 2 pieces and her legs had fallen off. Click ! there went the light bulb! From that day on I was determined to learn how to fix dolls as well as make them. I found G&M restoration seminar on the internet and that was all it took to get the fire started. I contacted them right away. Off I went to learn how to be a good dolly doctor. I finished the course and received my certificate for doll restoration and repair. What a feeling that was !
I became a member of the Doll Doctors Association in 2005 and entered my first competition in 2006 for the Doll Doctors Association restoration competition . That year I received 3 ribbons for my entries: First Place for composition, First Place for wig making and Judges Choice award.
I enjoy working on our childhood friends of years gone by, and bringing them back to life once again. Each and every doll that comes to my Hospital will be treated as if it were mine. Handled with care and respect.
I am currently working towards my Dollologist certification and plan to keep up with all the newest techniques of doll restoration and repair.
Although my children think I'm nuts for having so many dolls, they are very supportive of me. My Husband John has always encouraged me to follow my dreams. And is always there to lend a helping hand . Dreaming is a wonderful thing !
